Project Summary

 

Aim = to improve the quality of education for democratic citizenship in all participant schools by creating a model curricula concerning the integrative teaching of democratic citizenship using the topic approaches based on key concept – energy as important element of the community welfare.

Objectives

·         To produce a transferable and flexible curriculum on the integrative study of democratic citizenship using scientific key concepts as energy, in the pre-universitary educational system;

·         To stimulate the students’ interest to study sciences thought extra-curricular activities;

·          To develop,  for teachers and students involved in the project:

·         research skills

·         languages skills

·     skills, values, beliefs and attitudes supporting a democratic and human rights culture (listening to others,  making moral analysis, cooperating, problem solving, decision making, taking action, showing concern for the environment protection).

Activities

·         Individual and group study on the topic:

·         What is energy;

·         The clean use of fossil based resources;

·         Kinds of energy;

·         The renewable power ressources;

·         The nuclear energy;

·         Energy chainse.

·         Training courses  about social investigations and creation&using of instruments for the civic  involvement activities

·         Investigations about power industry and sustainable development at local and national level

·         Creating materials activities by students and teachers:

·         Brochure and Text book for an optional curriculum with the essays and reports about  local and national power industry, local problems concerning environment pollution with power industry,

·         Guide for teaching democratic citizenship using the topic approaches based on key concepts.

·         CDs and WEB page.

·         Advocacy activities for the problems discovered during the investigations;

·         Communication, dissemination, monitoring and evaluation activities of the processes and of the project’s products.

Results:

·         At students and/or teachers  level:

·         Students interested in science study

·         Teachers able to organize and implement a quality teaching learning process;

·         Student&teachers having:

·         Management skills

·         Research skills

·         Communication and foreign languages skills

·         Social skills

·         Democratic citizenship skills

·         Products:

·         Text book and brochure for teaching democratic citizenship using elements of community welfare and science key concepts
