We were very excited to meet our Italian friends at the railway station of Sátoraljaújhely on 30th March. We were expecting 8 students and 1 teacher from Liceo Scientifico Statale’Leonardo da Vinci’ Sora and 6 students and 2 teachers from Instituto Comprensivo Arce „Giovanni Paolo II il Grande”. The students were accommodated by families and the teachers stayed at Hotel Csillagfény.

On Monday morning Hörcsikné Balla Katalin, the deputy headmaster welcomed the guests and showed around the school. Then they had the opportunity to observe different classes: English, History, Mathematics, IT, Biology and Latin. They had the chance to try the food in the school dining room for lunch. I hope they liked it. |

In the afternoon the group visited Sátoraljaújhely with the guidance of Zoltán Körmöndi and his tourist students. They saw the Piarist church, the Town Hall, the Archive, the Kazinczy Museum and the town centre. |

At 5 pm. we organized a welcome party where the kids of the two nations started to communicate and we managed to break the ice.

Tuesday morning was the time to do some work. There was a visit to the local Water Cleaning Plant with the help of Hajnalka Bodnár who had the opportunity to attend the Liceo Scientifico in Sora for 3 months with an AFS program for COMENIUS schools. |

After lunch the group visited the BOKRÉTA Art School, where they could see how to learn Hungarian folkdance. | |

On Wednesday morning there was a sightseeing tour in Sárospatak. They saw the Rákóczi Castle, the Library of the Reformed College, the modern House of Culture. |

In the afternoon we organized an Open Project Day, which means that we invited some teachers and students from the local primary and secondary schools, managers of the local firms who helped our project work and the local Television.
It was a very successful afternoon, when representavives of the working teams presented their work of the project year. All the teams did a great job. |

Thursday was a special day, when we visited the historic monuments of the Bodrogköz. With the giudance of the manager of the willage from the time of Árpád’s conquest of Hungary we could see a cemetary from the time of the conquest in Karos, a Romanesque church and a willage museum in Karcsa, a renaisance castle in Pácin and an ancient village from the time of the conquest in Kisrozvágy. In this village we could see typical Hungarian domestic animals like Mangalica pig and grey cattle, and the brave ones could try archery. On the way back to Sátoraljaújhely we went via Slovakia and saw the birth place of Rákóczi Ferenc in Borsi.
In the afternoon we visited the Evolucio Health Centre which is a good example for using renewable enrgy for heating, lighting and cooling. It works with geothermal energy.

Friday morning started with a competition about Sátoraljaújhely. There were teams of Italian and Hungarian students, who had to go round the town and find the answers to the questions. The winner got a big Cake.
At 11 the local Zemplén TV made interviews with the students and teachers, then they went up to the Hagas hill by chairlift.
The afternoon was free for buying souvenirs. In the evening the students organized a farewell party. |

Saturday morning when we had to say goodbye at the railway stetion some students and even parents were crying. It was difficult to say goodbye after such a nice week together. |
